One of the most desired and important tourist destination for Tanzania is Kalambo water falls. This is the only place in the whole continent of Africa where there are several rich records of human inhabitation and activity. This area has some very rich undisturbed cultural and camping sites which are pre historic. Kalambo water falls provide you amazing and breathtaking views.
These water falls are located at the edge of Lake Tanganyika. These falls are near to the border of Zambia, but the view is perfect only through Tanzania. This waterfall stands at 220m (700 feet) and is the second highest waterfall in the continent of Africa. This water fall perfectly fits into the league of the major waterfalls such as Grand Canyon, Victoria falls etc. You can feel the force when you are actually walking towards the edge of the waterfall. The perfect season to watch these waterfalls is in the wet season. Intensity of water is so huge during the wet season that it takes down anything that comes between its paths; you can actually see huge trees rumbling down the waterfall. During the dry season the water is calm and not so raging.
These falls are located to the south west region of Rukwa and the water flows towards the south eastern region of Tanganyika. The locality where these falls are located is called as Mpulungu.
Make sure that you pick up a right travel agent and vehicle because the road to this waterfall differs according to the season. Although the road is good to a certain extent it cannot be trusted. Make sure that you have enough dollars with you in case of breakdown. Road trip is a real adventure because you will be passing through thick forest and towns.
