Tanga region is located to the Northern eastern part of Tanzania . It has a very long coastline and magnificent sand beaches. The proximity of this place makes it very important; it is surrounded by Kilimanjaro, Tarangire and Lake Manyara to the north and the eighth wonder of the world Serengeti. British with its 7000 Indian soldiers landed during world war1 and fought against Germans. British did lost that battle but they made German surrender successively and the papers were signed at CLIFF Block hospital. Those cemeteries of the brave warriors still exist in Tanga. This region consists of seven districts they are Handeni, Korogwe, Muheza, Lushoto and Pangani. Pangani has huge coast line with serene beaches untouched by modernization and pollution. These mountains offer you great challenge as they are quite uneven in their structure. “Switzerland of Africa” offers you a cool climate and this place is also known as Lushoto. Game reserves in the area of Tanga are world class.
There are two world class game reserves which are controlled by the authorities they are Mwakijembe and Mkomazi. Amani Nature reserve is very unique in nature and is known as the “last paradise” of the world. This reserve has huge collection of flora and fauna to its credit. This reserve also has the largest botanical garden in the entire Africa . There are different trials which lead to your destination such as Mbomale, Monga, Ndola , Sigi spice, derema, kwamkoro etc. There are many hiking routes and different trials which lead to different destinations.
